Most of these patterns are copied from original Ballard rifles built by Marlin but will also fit recent-production rifles from the Ballard Rifle Company in Cody, WY.

We have a variety of barrel blanks in stock and in most cases we can contour them to your specifications in a week or two.  If you want a caliber/twist rate that is not shown in some cases we will be able to order it for you but delivery times vary from 6-8 weeks for Douglas and Shilen to 6 months or more for the other barrel makers.

Contoured barrels typically have a 1" shank suitable for most single shot rifles, so if you want something larger you must let us know. We can generally accommodate custom contours, but there may be an extra charge.

Contoured barrels are polished and ready to blue.  If you want it unpolished make a note and the price will be somewhat lower.

We regularly fit new barrels to CPA and Stevens 44 1/2 actions as well as Stevens 44 actions.  We can fit barrels to Stevens Favorite actions but in most cases do not recommend it.  If time permits we will fit new barrels to original Winchester 1885 high wall and low wall rifles.
We will fit new barrels to our CPA 44 1/2 actions as well as original Stevens 44 1/2 and Model 44 actions.  We will sell contoured barreled blanks for other rifles but due to our shop backlog we will not thread or fit barrels to other rifles.
Buttstocks are drilled for the through bolt.

Most of our buttstock blanks are original type thick shell American walnut from the Midwest and represent the best quality that we can find. We also have a good supply of English walnut and maple. Other species are available from us in limited quantities, please contact us for more information.

We have hundreds of stock blanks and cannot photograph them all.  We have made our best effort to describe the typical wood in each grade, but exact descriptions are impossible due to natural variation. When we choose a blank for your project, we will choose the nicest piece in the grade you specify which suits the size of the stock and (when appropriate) traditional figure.

If you have something very specific in mind, you can choose from our exhibition grade stock blanks or send your own wood.

All of our rifles are based upon the Stevens Model 44 1/2 action, the final action made during the high point of the single shot rifle. Fewer than 13,000 of these rifles were made during the period of 1902 to 1916, and they were certainly the finest of the factory single shot target rifles.

The same action is used for each of our four standard models: Schuetzen, Silhouette, Benchrest and Sporting rifles. Each of these is available with a variety of options, includingbarrel size, caliber and stock style. Most of the options are listed on our rifle order form. Most of our rifles are made to order to the customer's specifications, but we do occasionally have rifles in stock for immediate sale. Delivery time for a custom rifle is usually between 4 and 6 months.

At this time we are not processing rifle sales through our website. You are welcome to browse options and pricing but please call or email us to confirm specifications. Rifles and actions must be picked up at our shop or shipped to an FFL holder.
CPA 44 1/2 actions are somewhat wider than original Stevens 44 1/2 and 44 actions but if you are willing to remove the extra wood these stocks will also fit original rifles.
Prices are generally for work on Stevens rifles only. Other work may be available, please contact us for a quote.
In most cases we will use our best judgement to select a stock blank in the  grade you request which best complements the rifle you are building.  If you are looking for something special, we have a selection of individual blanks pictured here.

Each stock is drilled for a through bolt.
Forearms are 98% shaped and inlet.  For normal barrel contours, the inletting is typically within about .010", while we typically leave about .060" on the outside surfaces.  If it is an unusual contour, we will leave extra wood.
All of our front sights are designed for a 3/8" dovetail unless noted otherwise.
Our levers are reproductions of original Stevens 44 1/2 levers and are machined to fit our CPA 44 1/2 actions.  They can be easily modified to fit an original Stevens 44 1/2 action and if you let us know this is your intention we will make the modifications at no charge.  They will not fit a Model 44 action without significant work: we do not recommend it and will not do it ourselves.  To fit one of our levers to another rifle, we recommend buying a casting and welding it to the stub of your original lever.
Our rifles are typically made to order, and we have a number of options available.
We have a limited selection of parts for single shot rifles by Winchester, Ballard and Sharps. Click on the manufacturer above to see what we have available.
We do only very limited gunsmith work and this is only for single shot rifles.  Barrel work is generally done only on Stevens single shot rifles, though we will occasionally rebarrel an original or exact reproduction Winchester 1885 high wall or low wall if our production backlog allows.
All of our tang sights are for Stevens rifles only.  Hole spacing is 1.485" and 5-40 screws are included.

We occasionally have rifles in stock, either from a cancellation or from extra space in our production.  Unless explicitly stated, these are new rifles subject to our full warranty and we also allow return for full refund within 15 days for any reason.  Certain changes can be made at no cost such as changing the lever style or drilling for scope bases, and at extra cost we can add barrels, sights, checkering, etc.  We will change stocks at no charge only if the wood is unfinished.  Please call for more information if you are interested.
We no not manufacture scope but occasionally have used scopes for sale.  We do have bases to mount a variety of traditional and modern scopes.  If you are looking to buy a traditional scope of new manufacture, consider Montana Vintage Arms or DZ Arms.
These stocks are intended to fit original Sharps rifles and faithful reproductions.  If you have a rifle which you suspect has been modified, please contact us before ordering.
Please be careful when ordering parts for a Stevens model 44 action.  There are several variations in the actions and we do not have all the parts you might be looking for. Not sure which model you have? Click here for: General information about the Stevens Model 44.
Stevens 44 1/2 actions are larger than model 44 actions but if you are willing to remove the extra wood any of the 44 1/2 stocks will also fit model 44 rifles.

SInce most of the stocks we make are done to order, we can often accommodate special requests.  In addition we offer stock fitting and finishing for single shot rifles only.  If you don't see what you want please contact us for a quote.

Each stock and forearm is made only to order, one at a time. As a result, special features can be added in most cases. Note, however, that it is not possible to make custom stocks using a profiling machine. Delivery time is typically one month, but varies on backlog status and workload.

To place an order, specify grade of wood, pattern wanted, barrel shape (round, octagon, part octagon with length of octagon section), barrel dimensions at frame and end of forearm, location of screw hole for forearms, and any accessories or options wanted. When we receive your order, we will send you an acknowledgement which you should review carefully.

Guarantee

All work is guaranteed to be of good workmanship and to properly fit an original rifle. Our stocks will not fit your rifle without some handwork, since wood is left to account for variations. If your action has been altered, as many of them have, you must let us know exactly how it varies from the original or the guarantee is void. If you suspect that there has been an alteration, please send sketches; do not guess - guesses can be expensive.

This product is guaranteed to be to specifications; if not, we will either replace it or refund your money. In the case of customer wood being damaged, we will replace the wood as well. Customer wood will be run complete without regard for any defects. This warranty is the best in the business, although it does not cost us very much since few stocks ever become a problem.

These stocks will fit original Winchester 1885 highwall rifles and close replicas such as those made by C. Sharps and Ballard Rifle Company.  They WILL NOT FIT 1885 namesakes made by Browning or Miroku.  We do have some stocks to fit these rifles, look at our other stocks.
To fit original Winchester manufacture only.  If you are looking for stocks for a new rifle, please check the dimensions before ordering.
