Original Stevens 44 1/2 rifles did not have a stock through bolt and we do not recommend them for our rifles. I am not convinced there is any increase in accuracy, but some shooters will not have confidence in a rifle without one so we do offer it for those who want it. We use a long bolt which makes removal of the stock simple, but a metal rod will not expand and contract with changes in humidity the same way that wood will. So if you do have a through bolt, we recommend tightening it before you shoot and loosening it after you shoot to prevent the wood from cracking.
We cannot fit a through bolt to a finished stock.
